In this post I'll talk about and give details about ASTM A615. First let's describe it and then have a look at its material's properties.
Ok let's start with ASTM A615 chemical composition.

Now it's the mechanical properties turn:
Learn more about what is yield strength.
Learn more about what is tensile strength.
Learn more about what is elongation.
Learn more about reduction of area.
Learn more about the what is allowable stress.
What is ASTM A615?
ASTM A615 is a Specification for Deformed and Plain Carbon Steel Bars for Concrete ReinforcementCategory
Steel BarsScope
This specification covers deformed and plain carbon steel bars for concrete reinforcement in cut lengths and coils. Steel bars containing alloy additions, such as with the AISI and SAE series of alloy steels, are permitted if the resulting product meets all the other requirements of this specification.Ok let's start with ASTM A615 chemical composition.
Chemical Composition
The percentages of carbon, manganese, phosphorus, and sulfur, shall be determined. The phosphorus content thus determined shall not exceed 0.06 %.

Now it's the mechanical properties turn:
Yield Strength
Grade 60
60 ksi (420 MPa) min.Learn more about what is yield strength.
Tensile Strength
Grade 60
90 ksi (620 MPa) min.Learn more about what is tensile strength.
Elongation (min.) 203.2 mm
9% (Bar no. 3).Learn more about what is elongation.
Reduction of Area (min. %)
Not Required.Learn more about reduction of area.
Allowable Stress
Depends on the project (And its factor of safety).Learn more about the what is allowable stress.

I ranked materials according to their yield strengths and ASTM A615 currently ranks 35 in my yield strength index. This means there are other 34 materials that are more resistant.
Note: I've analysed 134 materials in order to create an yield strength index. Check my astm material's comparison post for more details.

My Material's Rank
While engineers will often look for the cheapest material they can use, I took a different approach to material's selection to help newbie students.I ranked materials according to their yield strengths and ASTM A615 currently ranks 35 in my yield strength index. This means there are other 34 materials that are more resistant.
Note: I've analysed 134 materials in order to create an yield strength index. Check my astm material's comparison post for more details.
