What is Weld Metal (Weld Metal Zone Definition) 👨‍🏭

Definition of Weld Metal (WM)

It is the metal in a fusion weld consisting of:
  • Base metal melted during welding.
  • Filler metal.

Weld Metal Zone

Weld Metal Zone (WMZ) is the portion of the weld area consisting of weld metal.

It undergoes fusion during welding.

There are also complementary terms:

  1. Fusion Zone: Region of the base metal that undergoes fusion during welding. It's a term with little use.
  2. Fusion Boundary: Region of the welded joint that surrounds the zone that undergoes fusion during welding. Generally used in some impact tests to define the location of removal of specimens.
  3. Fusion: Passage from solid to liquid state. This transformation takes place with increased heat or thermal energy. During melting, the metal goes through a heating process.
  4. Solidification: Passage from liquid to solid state. This transformation takes place with the loss of heat. During solidification, the metal undergoes a cooling process.
Please note that the HAZ is not part of the weld metal zone.

Citation

When you need to include a fact or piece of information in an assignment or essay you should also include where and how you found that piece of information (Weld Metal Zone).

That gives credibility to your paper and it is sometimes required in higher education.

To make your life (and citation) easier just copy and paste the information below into your assignment or essay:

Luz, Gelson. What is Weld Metal (Weld Metal Zone Definition). Materials Blog. Gelsonluz.com. dd mmmm. yyyy. URL.

Now replace dd, mmmm and yyyy with the day, month, and year you browsed this page. Also replace URL for the actual url of this page. This citation format is based on MLA.
