Definition
The specific gravity of coal is the ratio of the density of coal to that of a reference substance (Usually water).
This information can be used to tell whether coal will float (or sink) if dropped in water (Buoyancy).
Formula
SG = ρcoal / ρwater
Note: Both densities need to be in the same unit as they will cancel each other and produce SG.
