Group Number of Ytterbium (& Uses, Sources ... 2022

As anyone would guess, every atom has a group name assigned, even Ytterbium. But how do we know what is the group name for an atom of Yb?

First of all, if we know the atom symbol (or name), let's say Yb, we can open any periodic table and search for Ytterbium. If the periodic table is complete just scroll up and read the number on the top (from 1 to 18).
