All atoms have a group name assigned, even Chlorine. Ok but how do we know what is the group name for an atom of Cl?

If we know the symbol, let's say Cl, we may then open any periodic table and search for Chlorine. Any decent periodic table should have the group numbers when you scroll up starting from the element you found.
