Definition
The density of soil is the weight of the soil per its volume.Formula
ρ = m / V
- ρ: Density
- m: mass
- V: Volume
Density vs Specific Weight vs Specific Gravity
I would like to point out that there are conceptual differences between density, specific weight and specific gravity. Follow the link if you want to learn more about these differences.With that said, this page will provide you the soil density in kg/m³ (SI unit), g/cm³, g/ml, kg/l, lb/ft³.
Density of Soil
The type of soil has a great influence on density. Here is an average idea of its density:
𝛒 = 1.6 g/cm³
𝛒 = 1600 kg/m³
𝛒 = 1.6 g/ml
𝛒 = 1600 g/L
𝛒 = 1600 g/L
𝛒 = 99.88 lb/ft³
